Line down!

After experiencing a power outage last week, it was now time for the ADSL line to go down. Last night around 22:15 I wanted to look something up on the Internet, only to discover I had no connection whatsoever. My first reaction was to reboot my router, but that did not work. Next, I checked the statuspage on the router. It showed I did not get an external IP-address from my ADSL router. So I went over to the closet where my modem is situated and discovered the DSL light was not on. Resetting it didn’t work either. Bollocks! Since […]

Design: the Microsoft way

I’m probably number 2.387.681 to blog this, but I can’ resist it, because it is really funny for those people who have a love-hate (or hate-hate) relationship with Microsoft and the way they market their stuff. So just click on play and see the video 😉 Microsoft designs the iPod package:

Man down!

It’s dead, Jim! 11:30 am. Suddenly the music stops. "Hmm, that’s weird. Oh, my remote desktop connection is gone too. Hmm. What was that? Let’s reconnect." 15 minutes later: "Ok, what happened? Where is my NAS and why can’t I connect to my other PC’s? Oops, now the connection is gone altoghether". This is what happened this morning at my work. I turned on my iLounge 24×7 radio there and suddenly it was gone. I could log-in at my server (just once) and after that it was dead. Help! Man Server down! Call 911! All day long I could not […]

Bush lied about Katrina

FEMA briefing For those who missed the news: Associated Press has revealed that Bush was warned adequately about Katrina’s potential destructive power although he denied this later, saying that “I don’t think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees.” In fact federal disaster officials warned President Bush and his homeland security chief before Hurricane Katrina struck in dramatic and sometimes agonizing terms, that the storm could breach levees, put lives at risk in New Orleans’ Superdome and overwhelm rescuers, according to confidential video footage. Bush didn’t ask a single question during the briefing but assured soon-to-be-battered state officials: “We are […]

Stuck in a blur

Yuk. More snow. The whole week has been one big blur because of the snow. Last night was just incredible. I have been stuck in traffic jams in places that I have never been stuck before in my life. Off course for kids and such this is great. I remember how much I loved to play outside in the snow when I was a kid. And we did have some cool winters in the mid-seventies with at least 1 to 1.5 feet of snow. But when you’re commuting it is just a pain in the neck. Anyway: look at my […]

Diggin’ it

Yet another day with snow. When I woke up the world had turned to black an white once again. Unlike the other day my car was completely covered with about 2 inches of snow and I had to clean all the windows before I took off. In contrast to yesterday however, I made good progress. I guess people are getting used to the weather. Funny enough; for once I seemed to be going the right way and the traffic jam was on the other side of the road. Lucky me.. See the video’s for a quick impression: Snow covered carGoing […]

Road to knowhere

Phew. Spend more that 1,5 hours to get to the office this morning. Traffic was horrendous due to bad weather. Snow, wind, hail and rain. Everything they can throw at us. Here is a small clip that shows the snow on my car. In this part I was actually still moving. But right around the corner it stopped and it took me an hour to barely get 10 miles further. Good thing I had a newspaper with me.

Cheney – Whittington cover-up

‘Blatant lie’ When I heard about a week and a half ago about US vice-president Dick Cheney accidentaly shooting a guy, I didn’t think that much of it. I mean: accidents happen. But then some details started to leak out to the press. The fact that Cheney tried to keep the press out of the whole story, the fact that Cheney did not have the right permit, the fact the local sherif didn’t interview anyone until the day after etc. etc. And who can blame the guy for it: the more facts leak out the more stupid it all looks. […]

Customer support the Adobe way: braindead

‘Fuckstomer Support’ So what the heck ever happened to ‘customer first’ and all that? What is it that companies do not get about the ‘customer’ and the ‘service’ in ‘customer service’ ? Why is it so hard to actually help a customer, let alone give them the feeling they are welcome and appreciated? This week showed me another excruciating example of a total lack of coordination, service and apathy when I tried to get a hold of someone in sales at Adobe in the Netherlands. And all I want is some information about their Adobe Graphics Server. So first I […]
