Finally the US supreme court wakes up and stands up against Bush: the US Supreme Court has ruled that the Bush administration does not have the authority to try terrorism suspects by military tribunal. The bad news is that the ruling does not address detention of terror suspects in general. Currently about 460 inmates, mostly without charge, whom the US suspects of links to al-Qaeda or the Taleban are held at Guantanamo Bay. The ruling is seen as a major blow to President George W Bush. Bush said on Wednesday he was “considering shutting the facility”, and would decide after […]
Way to go morons
Dumb and Dumber There we have it: our Dutch government is resigning after losing the support of one of its coalition partners, D’66. D’66 pulled its support because Verdonk, known as “Iron Rita” for her tough stance on immigration issues, refused to resign over her treatment of Hirsi Ali. The announcement came after two days of debate in our parliament, where Verdonk did a complete U-turn on her stance on Hirsi Ali. Last night the debate lasted from 9pm in the evening till 5:30am this morning. Personally I’m glad it happened: this government had become a complete farce after all […]
The right stuff / pwnd!
pwnd! He might be in his seventies by now, but ex-astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second man in history to walk the moon, still has the right stuff! He proved so by punching looser ‘wannabee conspiracy theory’ Bart Sibrel smack in the middle of his ugly face when he was calling Aldrin a “a coward, a liar and a thief”. According to Sibrel, Aldrin never was on the moon. According to Aldrin, he was lured to a Beverly Hills hotel under the pretext of an interview on space for a Japanese children’s television show. When he arrived, Aldrin claims Sibrel was […]
Lying about a lie?
Bullshit Can SOMEONE please explain to me what the hell is going on here in Holland with all the damn political bullshit that’s going on around Ayaan Hirsi Ali? After all the political debate about her (potentially) loosing her Dutch citizenship, because she lied about her name and montivation when asking asylum in The Netherlands, everything is taking a new twist. Minister Verdonk survided all the debates so far. Parliment forced her to find a way to let Ali keep her passport and so she did. According to Somalia law you can choose what last name (family name) you want […]
Linux vs Windows
Dual Boot or dual split? [CONFESSION MODE] The more I work with computers and software, the more appreciation I get for Microsoft and it’s Windows OS.[/CONFESSION MODE]. There: I said it. And you know what: I really mean it… So what triggered this confession? Well, I have some new (old) hardware since this weekend (Friday night) that I try to turn into a dual boot server running XP and Ubuntu (yeah again: Ubuntu). The hardware is an old Pentium III that runs at 866Mhz with 640mb ram (133mHz ECC), has a Elsa Gladiac Nvidia MX200 videocard with 64mb and a […]
It’s over
Ok, that was it. Game, set and match. We just got f**** over by the Portugese in the weirdest match of the whole World Soccer Championship so far. My God what a historic match! In one word: INCREDIBLE! I have never seen anything like this before. Almost 19 (!) yellow cards and 4 red cards! 2 for the Portugese and 2 for the Dutch. That never happened ever before. We started off with a big chance right in the first 60 seconds of the match. But then the Portugese scored 1:0 and after that it all went downhill. Just before […]
Soccer D-Day
Another Soccer D-Day today: our national soccer team has to play against Portugal. If we win whe are through to yet another round of finals (1/8th). If we loose (which I predicted a 1-2 loss) then we go home. So far I am number 3 in our soccer pool at work. But I don’t hink I will be number 3 on Monday anymore. Number 3 in the soccer pool To be continued…
Hey, what is this switch for?
Oops! For those who doubt that Murphy’s Law is just a theory, I would jus say: read on. Some poor chap in Canada did something that he probably will regret for the rest of his natural life and surely will not put on his curriculum. He flipped a switch he shouldn’t and that costed 11 million dollars. Yeah, you read it right: 11 million! Oops! My bad! Apprantly the guy, who was working on installing a structural steel platform at an ethylene plant in Corunna, Ontario, mistakenly activated a process shutdown switch on this Monday afternoon thus halting the complete […]
del.icio.us
Ok, I’ll be honest with you. For a long time I did not see the point of the whole ‘community’, ‘sharing’ and ‘social web 2.0’ and ‘tagging’ thingy. So all that stuff went right past me. Until now. One of the things I found is sharing information is a neccesity in the line of work I’m in. Sharing links that point to good webresources for instance. So after visiting the Adobe 2006 Live event yesterday, I decided to finally set up a del.icio.us account. For good measures I installed the del.icio.us plugin to my blog, so now you guys can […]
The Dutch invade Germany
We don’t call it “het Oranje legioen” (the Legion of Orange) for nothing 🙂(Stuttgart, Germany Friday, June 16th, before the match against Ivory Coast)
