To boldly go…

“Science: The Final Frontier. These are the adventures of the LHC. It’s mission: To explore the Big Bang… To seek out new particles, and find answers… To Boldly Go Where No Scientist Has Gone Before.” Today is a historical day for any physicist in the world: the Large hadron Collider in CERN finally smashed sub-atomic particles into each other with record energy, creating thousands of mini-Big Bangs like the primeval explosion that gave birth to the universe 13.7 billion years ago. After many setbacks and delays, physicists can finally pursue their dream of exploring the unknown.  And in doing so they already […]

Summertime

Yes! Winter is officially over again! I have to admit: I always hate it that when we switch to DST (Daylight Saving Time): they steel an hour of my weekend. But on the other hand it’s always nice that it’s light longer in the evening. For about 2,5 weeks I have been waking up by the sound of the birds (and it’s not my Sunrise alarm clock). Thats a good sign: spring is coming and it’s coming fast. I hope it gets warmer soon, so I can have dinner in my backyard.

I downloaded some episodes for my own entertainment and concluded that it is a cop show with a minimum of action. Nevertheless: somehow the series premiere drew 3.6 million viewers, ranking as best season opener for any original A&E series ever. As I wrote, Seagal has been a deputy sheriff of  Jefferson Parish, Louisiana for 20 years where he owns a second home. That must account for the fact that despite being born in Lansing, Michigan, has adopted […]

Sound Surroundings

It’s been a long time since I have been impressed with a Dutch music band, but when I saw and heard “The Q4” (also known as “The Quadraphonic Quartet”) on the Dutch daily show “De Wereld Draait Door” (aka DWDD) I knew I had to get my hands on their music. The Q4 produces some of the best trip-hop/nu-jazz I’ve ever heard, and is one of my favorite 2010 releases. I have been playing them for a few days now and I still am impressed with their style and laid-back sound. It was cool to see them show their creative […]
