Got vista?

Got it? Some time ago I wrote about the new and improved Windows Vista, although details where very sketchy at the time. In the mean time I have downloaded the latest beta version (didn’t have the time yet to fool around with it though) and read about all the new features (most of them are utterly useless in my humble opinion). Well, talking of useless: have you seen the proposed versions Vista will be available in? Holy toledo Batman, who has come up with this plan? What is this? Let’s confuse everyone and then hope they will still buy it? […]

Bulletin Board resurrected

I resurrected my phpBB2 bulletin board so people can discuss the Rayburn case there instead of on the original Blog. Just go to: The Rayburn Files. Somone also posted the case on the John Douglas Mindhunter Forums. I wonder is anyone will ever really crack the case.

I see dead pixels!

Exhibit ‘A’ While the world as we know it is probably ending (because we are very likely on the eve of an ‘ELE’ not caused by a comet but by a 12 Monkeys like outbreak of H5N1), all I can obsess about right now, is a dead pixel in my 17″ monitor. Yup, my Acer AL1715 that is about a year old is displaying a dead pixel. You can see it only on a dark background and shows up as red (see exhibit A). First I thought it was a speck of dust and tried to rub it off. Very […]

Re-introducing Windows Vista

Original or fake? Ok, we all know how good Microsoft is about ‘inventing’ new things and coming up with new, original ideas right? Well this year we will see the coming of yet another fresh, cool Windows: Vista! Yeah.. Right. Well, to get a sneak preview of it, watch these three part video of Vista getting re-introduced by Bill Gates himself: Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3.Yup, Micro$oft pulls it off once again. Way to go guys!

Goolag: exporting censorship one search at a time

Google/Goolag Haha, this is funny. Last month I blogged about Google censoring it’s China search engine version. And now Boingboing is reporting that some (h)activists are starting a parody/boycot against Google calling it Goolag (a spoof on the old Russian gulag archipel work camps).

Hack-attack

Routinely going through my logs and checking all my stuff. Off course I come over some shitty (and annoying) hack attacks: The Apache server on localhost:80 hackers top ten and their attempts: 200.14.96.57 6 attempts203.70.53.152 21 attempts203.70.53.157 6 attempts203.70.53.40 6 attempts218.69.111.102 6 attempts220.134.4.67 2 attempts221.169.56.134 22 attempts Multiple Vendor HTTP CONNECT TCP Tunnel attack 66 timesUnknown HTTP method (hex encoded) attack 14 times There were a total of 80 attempts by 18 persons/hosts Another very annoying thing: 90% of all traffic to my site is from spambots attempting to somehow leave links to their websites. Shit like this: 82.76.75.63 – […]

Scare Tactics

The Real Terrorist Going over my blog I found that I never wrote about the excellent BBC documentary called “The Power of Nightmares”. The documentary (written and produced by Adam Curtis) goes into the weird transition politics have underwent from basically a optimistic world view to a vision of fear. And it all boils down to one important thing: control. A perfect example of scare tactics is George Bush’s politics. As I wrote before, the US is rapidly becoming it’s own worst enemy. Another fine example is Bush spying on his own citizens under the pretence of it being nessecary […]

Minority Report

Very cool Sometimes you see movies that presents a rather cool interpretation of our (possible) future. One of my favorites in that department is Minority Report. I even use examples from that movie in presentations I do for my work because it shows technologies that are just now becoming a reality. For instance in the field of narrowcasting (aka ‘digital signage’) and digital publishing such as E-paper. A friend of mine send me an url to the website of the New York University Media Research Lab where they do all kinds of cutting edge research into new and cool gadgets […]

Fun with geeks

ALERT! This is an old clip from the Late Night with Conan O’brian show, way back when the new Star Wars episode II movie came out. Triumph the comic Insult dog is seen here at his best insulting all the crazy geeks that gather here. I haven’t laughed as much about something like this in while. The lines he has are just priceless: “Thousands of 35-year old men have gathered here (…) Lonely men, who have never had sex… not even with a Catholic Priest”. “How are you going to explain this to your imaginary girlfriend?”. And, last but not […]

The Global Zombie Attack Survival Test

Shit, did I drop my car keys? One of the more fun things to do is to contemplate completely fictious scenarios of things that will never happen. Like: what if your the only survivor of an apocalyptic war waged with biological weapons? What would you do to survive? Well, here is another scenario for you: Say zombies are popping up for real. How good are you’re chances to survive? Do you have the faintest clue what you’ll do and how you’ll survive? How long do you think you would survive? What would be your weapon of choice? What would you […]
