For those that are oblivious to this kind of stuff: today is June 6 2006, or: 06-06-06. And 666 is the number of the beast. In other words: today is a good day for devilworshippers. And, believe it or not: worldwide Christians are praying to keep the devil from doing bad stuff today. Also in Holland: Dutch Christians gathered at some 50 sites across the country to pray for 24 hours from 6 p.m. on Monday to 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Actually the only noteworthy seems the fact that a remake of the movie “The Omen” is coming out today. […]
Ubuntu glitches
Hmm. well that sucked, kinda. Ok, I installed Ubuntu on my server (the machine that is serving this page). It went pretty smooth and the webserver is working well. Still, I need to do a lot of work: mainly moving everything to linux. That’s a hell of a job! Basically I would need to migrate Serendipity and all other stuff I have. I would ditch Mambo because I don’t use it anyway (that’s why I have my blog right?). But I think that the 20gig I have in the server for Linux isn’t enough. So bottomline: I would need a […]
Server maintance
Ok guys, the server is going to be on- and offline a couple of times today. I am going to upgrade my Linux version to Ubuntu 6.06 instead of SUSE 10. If all goes well I’ll be up & running soon again. It’s part of my ongoing efforts to migrate from XP to Linux. XP is nice but ins’t that great (performance wise) when using Apache & MySQL. In fact I might choose to migrate my server and everything to a professional hosting company called Site5.com. They seem cheap and have loads of options. In the mean while: if all […]
Friends in high places
Amoebe with Alzheimer Yes folks, there is nothing more frightening than ignorance in action. Especially when it comes to politics (let’s say, Bush) or – closer to home – my work. Now, besides some exceptions, I normally do not write about my (current) work. Well, this is gonna be one of those exceptions.Yesterday I had the pleasure of attenting a board meeting at my company (2nd time). The company I work for consists of 8 subsidiaries (actually 9 but one is inactive) that have been bought over the last 15 years or so and now are part of a group. […]
TiVo – well, sort of
TiVo clone Ever since I got my girlfriend Carrie hooked on TiVo, I wanted TiVo for myself as well. Tough luck for me because you can’t get it in Europe/Holland. And it’s not because of technical restrictions, it’s because of all the damn politics surrounding the cable companies here. They understand all too well that TiVo revolutionizes the TV market and they all want to make money from it. So instead we have all kinds of weird constructions to get TiVo like functions (mainly: every cable company has it’s own set-top box solution). To cut a long story short: one […]
N.A.D.D.
Nerd alert! My friend Vincent just pointed me to a story that could have been about me. Yes folks, I too suffer from N.A.D.D. And I am proud of it. In case you haven’t clicked away yet to some pr0n site, then you’re now probably wondering “what the f**** is N.A.D.D.?” Well, it stands for “Nerd Attention Deficiency Disorder“. To explain it I will have to quote parts from the excellent story that this guy wrote in his blog “Rands In Repose“. So that dude deserves all the credits. I am so sure that if I forward the article to […]
My Lai 1968 – Haditha 2005?
My Lai massacre ’68 Atrocities during wars are as old as war itself. But one would expect the army of the country that says it’s bringing ‘democracy’ and ‘civilization’ to the world, to behave in a civil way. Off course that is just wishful thinking. And where else than Iraq would the modern atrocities occur. One would expect that the US soldiers would have learned from the infamous My Lai massacre in 1968 during the Vietnam war, but now the US is faced with another scandal of this magnitude: a massacre (and a possible cover-up) at Haditha, Iraq in 2005. […]
Sour Apple
Freedom vs Apple: 1-0 Last April I wrote about the case of Apple versus blogger Jason D. O’Grady. O’Grady posted a series of stories in October 2004 about an upcoming Apple product in development. Apple decided to sue him and demanded he revealed his sources. This prompted the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) to step in, arguing that the anonymity of his sources are protected by the same laws that protect sources who leak information to journalists. In other words: Bloggers may not be journalists, but they are protected as journalists. Well, this Friday the California court ruled in favor of […]
Stupid Human & Pet Tricks
Fetch! Ok, I guess you’re familiar with the CBS Late Night Show with David Letterman? Sometimes he has a segment in his show called: “Stupid Human & Pet Tricks” (I think it was called just “Stupid pet tricks” before, but I guess he thought it was degrading to the animals). Well, I have 2 cats here in my appartment, and one of them (see photo) is probably so bored out of his mind (they never get out) that he thinks he’s a dog. So what does he do? He grabs the tie-wrap of a plastic bag (metal) and runs around […]
