There is this Dutch saying that (roughly translated) says: “tickle yourself because others won’t”. Basically it means you need to indulge yourself now and then doing somthing nice or buying yourself something cool. Well, yesterday I indulged myself indeed: I bought myself a couple of things. Most notably I bought myself the DVD ‘King of New York’ starring one of my favorite actors: Christopher Walken. And I bought the 3-DVD set of the famous 90’s TV-series ‘Bottom’ starring Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmonson. What a blast! I also bought a LED ‘mood-lamp’ that changes color randomly (really cool actually!) and a new watch to add to my collection.
Off course I watched King of New York almost immediately when I got home. I am a big Walken fan and have several of his movies. I really dig the way he acts and I think he looks just great. I mean: just look at his career and all the good movies. I like ‘The Deer Hunter’ (got him an Oscar), ‘The Dogs of War’, ‘The Dead Zone’ (from the Stephen King novel), ‘McBain’, ‘True Romance’ (scripted by another favorite of mine: Quentin Tarantino), ‘Pulp Fiction’, ‘The Prohecy’ (part I, II and III), ‘Last man standing’ (with Bruce Willis), ‘Suicide Kings’ (next on my list to buy!), ‘Sleepy Hollow’ (as the headless horseman), ‘Man on Fire’ (definately a movie in my top-ten list) and the really funny ‘Wedding Crashers’.
In fact, I like the guys so much, I would definately support him if Walken would run for president in 2008! (seriously though: that is just a hoax). Anyway: I included to clips from an interview with him on acting at the bottom of this blog. Just watch it and find more about his acting ethics and skills.
The Bottom series is something completely different. It’s really juvenile humor at its best. I thoroughly enjoyed the series in the 90’s and also have 2 DVD’s of the life shows both Mayall and Edmonson did as a spinoff to Bottom (appropriately called ‘Bottom Live’ and ‘Bottom 2001: an arse oddity’). They both are fun performers and the humor is just my bag. Especially the slapstick parts where they both beat each other up is quite fun to watch. I am definately going to enjoy watching those episodes.
So what else is new? I have also been messing around with my website in the sense that I am now testing the WordPress blogging CMS. A friend of mine (Vincent van den Heuvel) is quite the designer (both interaction and usability) and is trying to find a good CMS for his blog. I must say that, although I am using both Blogger and Serendipity, WordPress is pretty cool and has a lot of options. I think I need to investigate a little more to see if I might switch or not (although migrating is a bitch).
Anyway: enough of the smalltalk. Here are the videos I promised about Christopher Walken.
