As was to be expected from our spineless Dutch politicians: they are about to agree on sending some Dutch soldiers over to the province Uruzgan in Afghanistan (come to think of it: not only are they spineless, they also have the mental capabilities and intelect of an amoebe). After debating a few days on the subject all government parties and the biggest opposition party (PvdA) have caved in under the international pressure and fear of losing face. Once again they defy the Dutch people who are against the sending of troops just as they were against the European constitution. All polls show clearly that a majority is against this mission. But do they listen? Hell no. Even D’66, the smallest party in the government, who said they were against the mission from the beginning is now going to agree. The mission is supposedly to help the Afghan people to rebuild their country. Yeah right. So we send troops instead of bulldozers and people and equipment that acually accomplish that. It has been noted that the area they are going to is very unstable and not safe. So my guess is that they will not get the time to help anyone. The whole thing is just foolish. Just like the US staying in Iraq. Let’s just hope the voters send a clear message to this government when the elections are here again.
