Just a quick video of me practicing at the range using my Viridian X5L. Works like a charm. Still need to work a bit on my tendency to jerk the trigger after going through half a box of ammo. Oh well, they say practice makes perfect…
Obama tells it like it is
News sometimes trickles down kind of slow here in Holland, but this was a bit too good let it pass even though it happened a week ago. What is it that I would like to share here? Well, on Friday Jan. 29th Obama visited a House Republican retreat in Baltimore to answer questions from republicans in, what The Huffington Post calls “The Lions Den”. At the end of the session there was a Q&A session that wasn’t supposed to be broadcast, but the White House pressured the Republican party to bring the cameras in. And Obama got a sterling opportunity to […]
Goodbye MJ
Ok. I changed my mind. I had decided not to blog about Michael Jackson’s untimely death. To much hype, to much blabla. But just out of curiosity I watched the Jackson memorial on CNN. I figured I could turn it off if I felt like it anyway. But I didn’t. I watched the whole thing. And yes, I am man enough to admit I did shed a tear. It was when Brooke Shields did her eulogy. The most sincere I heard all evening. Regardless of what you thought of the man: he was a living legend. And if your 40-something like […]
Express yourself with Linux
I love computers. I love to experiment with Linux. And I love it when people create something that expresses both their technological knowledge as well as their aesthetic abilities. Linux is so diverse and gives you the unique opportunity to completely mold a system to your liking. So when I was surfing the web, reading about all new Linux distributions, I came across this video for “Elive”, a Debian based Linux version, using the Enlightenment window manager. As always with Enlightenment you can control the smallest parts of it. Some say that’s the problem with Linux because you can lose […]
Bye bye Leno!
Last night a legacy of 17 years ended when Tonight Show host Jay Leno aired his last talk show. I have always been more of a Leno guy than a The Late Show with David Letterman, guy. I guess it is essentially a ‘East coast’ versus ‘West coast’ thing (or republican vs democrat). For a while both shows where on the Dutch TV, but then suddenly stopped. So I always tried to watch a couple of his shows whenever I was visiting my girlfriend in the US. It will be interesting to see how Leno will keep up with his […]
How did he get that job?
Sorry for posting yet another video, but I could not believe what I was seeing and hearing. I mean; kudos for president Obama; it seems he has gathered a group of competent people around him in the White House. But I guess Press Secretary Gibbs does not fall into this category. In fact, after seeing this clip I was wondering: “how the heck did he get that job?”. The subject: yesterday a flight mission and photo op, that looked like Air Force One and fighter jets heading toward the New York City skyline, caused a panic in New York. Some buildings even got […]
Suddenly Susan
It’s one of my favorite lines from The Devil’s Advocate, when John Milton (played superbly by Al Pacino) explains his success to Kevin Lomax (Keanu Reeves): “Don’t get too cocky my boy. No matter how good you are don’t ever let them see you coming. That’s the gaffe my friend. You gotta keep yourself small. Innocuous. Be the little guy. You know, the nerd… the leper… shit-kickin’ surfer. Look at me. Underestimated from day one. You’d never think I was a master of the universe, now would ya?” Well, that’s what happend when 47 year old Susan Boyle performed on Britain’s Got […]
Good Friday
I have to admit it: I always wanted to buy myself a big US car (in particular the Lincoln Continental Mark V), but driving home from work today in my friends convertible (a Mazda MX5 or ‘Miata’ as it’s known in the US) is making me rethink this. I was impressed with how smooth a ride it is. You can clearly hear us talking and even the radio playing in the background. Can’t imagine a more relaxed way to travel home: blue skies, sunny and a nice warm Friday afternoon.
Escape from City-17
I’ve been a huge fan of the Half-Life video games series, ever since the original came out in 1998. It set some new standards in storyline and also graphics (altough it basically uses a modified Quake engine). I remeber how I hugely enjoyed the opening scene for Half-Life with its cinematic effect and how it pulled you right into the game (something I only enjoyed again when playing Call of Duty 4). Half-Life 2 expanded in this and it even had a better storyline and looked great. I always thought that it might be worth making a movie out of […]
