Windows 7 GodMode

Here’s a nice tweak that I didn’t know about: apparently some Microsoft developers have a God complex when it comes to their OS. Hence the “Windows 7 GodMode tweak”. If you’re a hardcore Windows user this is probably old news for you, but I just stumbled upon this today  and I can confirm it works rather nice. So what does it do? Well it provides a single place to access all your Windows 7 (both 32 and 64bit) settings without you needing to browse options and folders in the Control Panel. Very handy because you can get lost pretty easy in all […]

Windows 7: so far so good

As I was getting more and more flaky errors from my Vista Home Premium installation, I recently reinstalled my Del XPS 420. Since I got my hands on Windows 7 Ultimate (legal, MSDN), I decided to take the step and install that. I reviewed some beta versions of Windows 7 before and it looked promising, but it is alway a bit of  a gamble with Microsoft. Previously when I beta-tested Windows Vista it was a nightmare: with every new Beta it seemed that Vista got worse and worse instead of better. So when the final version of Vista came out […]

Time to reinstall

After just two years I am already forced to reinstall Winblows Vista on my Dell XPS420. I have a legal (MSDN) copy of Windows 7 as well, but I wonder if I should do a clean re-install of Windows Vista first (as it has all Dell drivers), or if I should just attempt a clean Windows 7 install? Usually the latter is better. I’m now in the process of backing up my stuff to a 1TB USB disk. It’s slow and annoying. Another reason why I want to reinstall, is because the RAID 0 (stripe for speed) config of my […]

Google Chrome OS hype

Big news in IT land today. Google announced officially it’s working on Chrome OS. As usual the press immediately translated this news into something like “Google declares war on Microsoft Windows”, which is complete and utter nonsense. I used to be a journalist myself and I find it increasingly annoying how the press nowadays is just giving a twist to news that is besides the truth. Just another hype then? Don’t get me wrong: I love competition and the choice for consumers that comes with it. But Chrome OS is not intended to compete with Windows per se, simply because […]

Is Steve Ballmer a coke-head?

Every evil empire has it’s henchmen that do the dirty work. At Microsoft it just must be Steve Ballmer. I mean: the guy is a real PR nightmare! There are many embarassing video’s of him around, but I didn’t know this one yet: a compilation of a bunch of terrible Ballmer video’s. When you see the really old stuff you can only come to one conclusion: he has always been this way. Because of his outrageous behaviour there have been many speculations that he’s a coke head. Who knows. He might be just plain crazy.
