After just two years I am already forced to reinstall Winblows Vista on my Dell XPS420. I have a legal (MSDN) copy of Windows 7 as well, but I wonder if I should do a clean re-install of Windows Vista first (as it has all Dell drivers), or if I should just attempt a clean Windows 7 install? Usually the latter is better. I’m now in the process of backing up my stuff to a 1TB USB disk. It’s slow and annoying. Another reason why I want to reinstall, is because the RAID 0 (stripe for speed) config of my Dell is showing an error. Nevertheless Windows just boots and seems to have no problems.

Anyway; I have all disks from Dell so I don’t expect any big problems: just a whole lot of time will go into this. I also hate the fact that I will have to reinstall all my games and with many of them I will have to start from scratch again.

Yup, I know:  I should have got a Mac. Except not all my games run on it – unless I use Bootcamp or something.

      1. Sorry for my bad English translation of this Dutch phrase but a donkey (in general) does not bumb himself twice against the same rock!

  1. Impressively bad? Windows 7 Sucks Monkey Balls. Which version (Windows Home, Professional, Ultimate, x32, x64) it was the ultimate moment for Microsoft to clean it’s mess up! Registry, DLL Hell, dual binaries. I had it actually installed for 4 hours before I deleted that piece of garbage, give a company a reason to upgrade, there is actually none, I know this, Microsoft knows this. My games run perfectly with Windows XP. Their bag of hurt is compatibility, I say f@ck compatibility and dare to innovate! Like Zune HD it’s just a me-too product.

    1. Seriously. 4hrs is not enough to base any kind of opinion on. If I would have tested OS X only for 4hrs when it 1st came out, I would never have worked on a Mac. I came from Windows and was used to Windows. But no reason for me to adjust to the steep learning curve etc..

And quite frankly I’m fed up with all the Windows bashing going on.

I use Windows, OS X and even Linux (Ubuntu 9.04), and all these OS’s have good and bad points but I dare to say that with Windows 7 Microsoft finally made up for the terrible OS that Vista was. That alone is the best reason to upgrade. Speed wise 7 is only a few percent slower than XP but light years faster than Vista.

I will dedicate a blog to my Windows 7 experience and all I can say that so far it’s good. Windows 7 is all that Vista should have been in the first place.

Ps: so tell me where Snow Leopard is so innovative? It’s just more of the same. In fact it’s just a Service Pack for Leopard…
