(Click me) Hurricane season has started again and it always makes me a bit anxious. Not that I live in the USA/Florida, but my girlfriend and her son do. And I have seen what the results of a hurricane (like Katrina) can be. So I am alway a bit nervous when they announce the next storm, especially when it heads straight for the Florida Panhandle where they live. Luckily Alberto did not do that much damage in Tallahasse. A few fallen trees here, a crushed car there and off course the obligatory power outtages. I just hope this hurricane season […]
Das Boot
World Soccer Cup or not, today was too beatiful to just sit behind the TV to watch the Dutch soccer team beat Serbia-Montenegro (which they did, but with a mere 1:0). No today I was destined to get out on a boat. Not just a boat, but an old army boat that my friend Sander bought over a year and a half ago. Ever since he bought it he never had the pleasure of enjoying it. He totally missed last summer. So when this week he finally had it working we had to celebrate. And we did! We set sail […]

School fieldtrip turns into real-life CSI
CSI My girlfriend Carrie (who happens to be in Milwaukee on a conference) told me a pretty bizarre story last night when we where talking about the 6-6-06 thing. It proves that, if there is a devil, he does have a good sence of humor. This is what happened:A teacher from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale (Florida) wanted to entertain het students as part of her summer school forensics class by setting out a fake CSI crime scenes under several ficus trees, using paper skeletons, fake weapons, notes, shell casings, and sunglasses. The kids then found a […]
666
For those that are oblivious to this kind of stuff: today is June 6 2006, or: 06-06-06. And 666 is the number of the beast. In other words: today is a good day for devilworshippers. And, believe it or not: worldwide Christians are praying to keep the devil from doing bad stuff today. Also in Holland: Dutch Christians gathered at some 50 sites across the country to pray for 24 hours from 6 p.m. on Monday to 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Actually the only noteworthy seems the fact that a remake of the movie “The Omen” is coming out today. […]
Ubuntu glitches
Hmm. well that sucked, kinda. Ok, I installed Ubuntu on my server (the machine that is serving this page). It went pretty smooth and the webserver is working well. Still, I need to do a lot of work: mainly moving everything to linux. That’s a hell of a job! Basically I would need to migrate Serendipity and all other stuff I have. I would ditch Mambo because I don’t use it anyway (that’s why I have my blog right?). But I think that the 20gig I have in the server for Linux isn’t enough. So bottomline: I would need a […]
Server maintance
Ok guys, the server is going to be on- and offline a couple of times today. I am going to upgrade my Linux version to Ubuntu 6.06 instead of SUSE 10. If all goes well I’ll be up & running soon again. It’s part of my ongoing efforts to migrate from XP to Linux. XP is nice but ins’t that great (performance wise) when using Apache & MySQL. In fact I might choose to migrate my server and everything to a professional hosting company called Site5.com. They seem cheap and have loads of options. In the mean while: if all […]
Friends in high places
Amoebe with Alzheimer Yes folks, there is nothing more frightening than ignorance in action. Especially when it comes to politics (let’s say, Bush) or – closer to home – my work. Now, besides some exceptions, I normally do not write about my (current) work. Well, this is gonna be one of those exceptions.Yesterday I had the pleasure of attenting a board meeting at my company (2nd time). The company I work for consists of 8 subsidiaries (actually 9 but one is inactive) that have been bought over the last 15 years or so and now are part of a group. […]
TiVo – well, sort of
TiVo clone Ever since I got my girlfriend Carrie hooked on TiVo, I wanted TiVo for myself as well. Tough luck for me because you can’t get it in Europe/Holland. And it’s not because of technical restrictions, it’s because of all the damn politics surrounding the cable companies here. They understand all too well that TiVo revolutionizes the TV market and they all want to make money from it. So instead we have all kinds of weird constructions to get TiVo like functions (mainly: every cable company has it’s own set-top box solution). To cut a long story short: one […]
N.A.D.D.
Nerd alert! My friend Vincent just pointed me to a story that could have been about me. Yes folks, I too suffer from N.A.D.D. And I am proud of it. In case you haven’t clicked away yet to some pr0n site, then you’re now probably wondering “what the f**** is N.A.D.D.?” Well, it stands for “Nerd Attention Deficiency Disorder“. To explain it I will have to quote parts from the excellent story that this guy wrote in his blog “Rands In Repose“. So that dude deserves all the credits. I am so sure that if I forward the article to […]
