Bad weather I have been sick for four days now: and it sucks. I haven’t had a bad cold (or influenza) like this in at least 2 years. So I am not used to being sick any more. It started last Thursday: after a few hours at work I started to feel my throat. The next day (Friday) I din’t even feel like getting out of bed, but I did anyway. At the end of the day I was glad I could go home and start my weekend. Well, when I woke up Saturday morning I knew I was sick […]
“Ayaan Hirsi Ali-gate”
Ayaan Hirsi Magan Say someone comes to your country to ask for political asylum. In order to get it there a few criteria provided by law that you need to meet. These criteria are pretty straightforward and leave no room for discussion. Among them: your real name, real date of birth, the country you come from is on a list of countries that are known to violate human rights and you should apply for political asylum in the first country in which you arrived when you fled your own country. These are the rules and they are pretty simple, right? […]
1-0 for Jobs
Score: 1:0 While I was in Rome, Italy stuck with all the crappy Italian TV without any decent news, I missed the news of Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs scoring a home run against Apple Corps, the Beatles’ record company. Since I wrote about it earlier and I hate it when people do not follow up on stuff, I just had to write about it – even though it’s old news by now. The battle was over the question whether iPods and iTunes will still be allowed to carry an Apple logo. Justice Anthony Mann ruled that the computer company used […]
Everyone is an IT-expert nowadays
This is really funny! Even the BBC goofs up big time. They mistook a cabdriver for an IT-expert. Live, on TV. The look on the guys face when they mention his (wrong) name: priceless (for everything else: Mastercard). Check out the whole story: A computer expert has described his astonishment at seeing the BBC’s 24-hour news channel interview a taxi driver – in the mistaken belief it was him. Guy Kewney – a white, bearded technology expert – was astonished to see himself appear on screen as a black man with an apparent French accent. He was even more shocked […]
Above the law
Out of control. That is the only way I can describe the efforts of Bush to get information about ‘terrorists’ by spying on his own citizens. No matter how he tries to defend it, he is just taking everything one step to far. The worst thing is that he really believes he has the authority to step over every boundary there is. His latest venture: letting the NSA try to get their hands on all the phonebills from the major telco’s. USA Today reported last Thursday that the NSA was building a database with the help of three major U.S. […]
Birthday dinner
Yummy! Asparagus B’day dinner! Just came back from a family dinner at restaurant “De Witte Bergen” were I enjoyed a nice meal of asparagus. Although it’s not some high-class fancy restaurant, the food is always very good, as is the service. Prices aren’t bad either. Totally enjoyed the company of my stepmom, dad, sister, brother-in-law and his mom and the two kids. Only one missing was my sweety Carrie 🙁 Oh well: I guess I’ll throw a bigger party next year and she will have to come over for it (my brother-in-law is my age and will 40 next year […]
Happy Birthday to me
Fossil/Abacus PDA watch Hmm, another year gone! Today I hit 39 years and it is the last year that I can say I’m “thirty-something”. Next year it wil be the “BIG FOUR-O” (man: where does time go?). Anyway, my girlfriend Carrie got me the coolest present so far: an Abacus/Fossil PDA watch! It is a great addition to my watch collection. I love it and I surely will use it a lot. It features the Palm OS and I have owned quite a few Palm Pilots (three to be exact). As far as organizers go, the Palm Pilot is certainly […]
See Rome then die
Beautiful Rome I just came back from a eight day vacation to Switzerland and Italy with my girlfriend Carrie. We had a great time. Both Switzerland and Italy are so beautiful. We left on Wednesday morning around 4.30 in the morning and drove straight to our first stop: Locarno Switzerland. I love the mountains and the lakes! It is gorgeous there! What is really funny, is the fact that Locarno (located at Lago Maggiore) is almost subtropical and is really a beautiful place. We enjoyed our stay there a lot. Thursday we left Locarno, and drove for another five hours […]
My favorite Bush
Since I’ll be gone the next 12 days (I’m going to Italy with my girlfriend Carrie), I won’t be posting much. But not to worry: I have collected a bunch of funny (and not so funny) videos of ‘worldleader’ George W. Bush. So thanks to YouTube you can now spend the next days watching these video’s. So have fun and I’ll blog you later!
