I wrote a couple of times about my videocard being fried after the fan (probably worth less than a buck) died on it. It was a MSI nVdia Geforce FX5600 with 256mb of ram on it. It was not the worst card, but it was not good either: when running Doom3 for instance, it would slow down to about 10fps. With other games, it was just mediocre. After replacing the faulty fan with a new copper fan (that cost me € 19,-) it first would not fix the garbled video, but for some weird reason after 1 day it did. […]

It is not often any more that we have snow during winter. The last few years it did not snow, and when it did snow, it was always gone in a couple of hours. Not this week: in some places we had 1-2 feet of snow! Winter in march. And more snow than we had in 20 (!!) years. When I was a kid I remember we had a few winters in a row with 20inches of snow. Weird stuff going on in the land of computers: suddenly my video card (a MSI Geforce FX5600 256mb) is working again. Just to let you know: I have another gadget in my hands. It’s a brand new T-Mobile MDA Compact, also known as HTC “Magician”. It’s a Windows Mobile 2003 powered smartphone that really is well build and that has all the features (and software) that I like. I also own a Sony Ericsson P800, but it is now 2 years old and it’s really getting outdated (there has been a P900 and a P910a since then). Wow, after some days tinkering around I think I finally did it: I migrated my webserver to a new server. I went from my old Pentium III to my trusty Ahtlon 1.33ghz. Posting this blog is the last test to see if it all worked! Ok, remember the movie Gremlins? Well a gremlin is also a “ghost in the machine”, a quirk or bug in the system.
