The day earth stood still

9/11 WTC NYC It is Monday September 11th 2006 and while you are reading this, I’m in a plane on my way to Londen Luton Airport. And no, it wasn’t my choice to fly on this day: I’m going over to the UK for business as my company is working on a rather big Internet project for a UK based company. As I mentioned many times over in my blog: I hate flying. So flying on a September 11th, exactly 5 years after the infamous attacks that changed the world we live in for the worse, isn’t exactly my idea […]

ET Skype Home

ET Skype Home! I have been a Skype user ever since it came out. Go figure: my girlfriend lives in the US and even though prices for long-distance calls have dropped like crazy since we met in 1997, why pay for something that can be free? Off course using Skype had some disadvantages: you always need to leave your PC and Skype on and you always need to be near the computer, either using a headset or your microphone and speakers to talk. Now, if you go over to Skype and their store, you will see that there are alternatives […]

Pimp my T-shirt

Technology is cool. Even if you don’t see how it would be useful at first. Such is the case with this invention by Philips: LumaLive. Pimp My T-Shirt, by Philips This technology looks better: I can see some use in bars like they say, or even on board of cruiseships and airplanes or trains. Entertaible, by Philips Last but not least: remember that movie “Paycheck” (2003) with Ben Affleck playing a hacker that reverse-engineers technology and then sells it to competitors? The movie starts with him doing a hack on a 3D screen. Well, low and behold: the technology now […]

The real crocodile Dundee dies

Crikey, mate! This morning I woke up with the RTL4 morning news as usual and learned that the famous “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin (44) had died. Now of course one should not gloat over a persons death, but to me it wasn’ a shock or big surpirise. My first thought was: “well, that’s what you get from messing with dangerous animals”. I mean: with all due respect, it’s like learning that a firefighter died in a fire.So I kind of excpected him to have died from a fatal ‘croc’ bite, or by some snake bite. But it turns out he […]

Let it rain

Wet, wet, wet Folks, I have to confess: I’m getting sick and tired of the weather here. It is like nature is taking a piss on us. First we had an absolutely record breaking July: the hottest July in Holland in 300 years! That is since 1706 when we started to keep track of the weather here in Holland. We had two heatwaves back to back and it was just too much. As a result we had more old folks dying than normally is the case and farmers where complaining about their crops getting wasted. In short: everyone was bitching […]

“Gentlemen, we have boat drinks”

Jewel of the Seas Popquiz: from what movie is the quote: “When life is over, all you can hope is, that you’re sitting on a boat with all the pleasant people from your life, having boat drinks.” Well, you will have to look for the answer at the rest of this blog; otherwise it would be too easy. The reason I brought it up though, is because in December I will be having “boat drinks”: my girlfriend and me booked a carribean cruise. That’s right folks. Most people take a cruise after they retire and are in their sixties, but […]

Cold case remains cold

Karr’s mugshot As it now turns out, John Mark Karr is not the killer of JonBenet Ramsey. There was no match between the DNA found on JonBenet’s body and Karr’s DNA. As I wrote in my Blog about this case: I guess all that is left now, is to match his DNA to the DNA extracted from the crime scene, because personally, I do not rule out that Karr is confessing to something he did not do. So sadly my gut feeling (to me he just looked like an obsessive freak) now turns out to be right. His motive for […]

Shaping up: Vista part 5

Build 5536 Yesterday I downloaded and installed the latest version of Windows Vista, Build 5536. This is the Pre-RC1 build, so after this we should see what probably is the closest build to the final release next year. My conclusion so far: Vista is shaping up to what Microsoft wants it to be. Some improvements are small and hardly noticeable, but others are definitely visible – or should I say: noticeable. Performance has gone up on my PC. Vista feels more responsive and quicker on it’s feet. Yes, this release is miles away from the crappy beta2 community release (the […]

House of horrors

Horror cellar Bizarre news of the day: Austrian girl ‘found’ after 8 years. As incredible as it may be: a 10 year old girl that disappeared on her way to school in Vienna on March 2, 1998 was found again after she was able to escape her captor. Police were called when she was found staggering in a garden. The kidnapper, named in Austrian media as 44-year old Wolfgang Priklopil, had been chased by police earlier on Wednesday evening and his red BMW car was later found abandoned. The suspected kidnapper died after throwing himself in front of a train. […]
