Mad World

Columbine 1999 “Gun control is hitting what you aim at.” Or it least that’s what the bumper sticker said I read during my first visit to New York in the USA in 1995. No doubt the owner of the car was also a NRA member, or, as they are known: the National Rifle Association. And I am sure I’m not the only one that noticed there is only one letter that distinguishes them from the IRA, a now dormant terrorist group from Ireland. Now the reason I bring this up off course, is the fact that today there was yet […]

Cattle Herding

Well wouldn’t you know it: flying with Easyjet is just like cattle herding. Flying back on Thursday night from London Luton was one gigantic mess again. Security is just stupid. I had the same computer bag with me as last time, but this time I didn’t get any comments or have any problems with it being searched or anything. However, this time on the way to London I did get padded down myself. The security gate went of on me because I left a bit some Mentos in my pocket: the aluminium in it must have triggered the alarm. My […]

Cattle

Tomorrow I once again fly to England for yet another business trip. And again it’s going to be a Amsterdam – London Luton roundtrip. And yet again I am preparing to be herded around like the cattle we are. The only thing missing are the cattle prods to herd us through check-in, passport control, customs and the plane. Big sigh. I hope we can avoid the kind of shit that the guys had that made this video.

Pod off!

iSue You Ok guys & girls, Apple just made it to my shitlist. Not that I own a iPod or any Apple hardware anyway, but jeez folks, what the heck is wrong with Steve? Apple has issued yet another so-called ‘cease and desist’ order at a company called Podcast Ready, claiming that the terms “Podcast Ready” and “myPodder” infringe upon its trademarks and confuse consumers. The whole idea that Apple is claiming ownership of the word “podcast,” which obviously originated from “iPod” but is now defined as a general term used for digital audio shows that aren’t necessarily affiliated with […]

Portable comparison

I have been looking at several portable solutions for my own use: I travel a fair deal and I like to take my data with me. So I decided to make a list of pro’s and con’s for my own reference. After looking at my list I decided to publish it: there are really a lot of options in the market nowadays, and I think it is good to see how they compare. All the options I review here (not too much indepth) are options I have tried myself so I can state that I have first hand experience with […]

Digital Nomads

Great ass, uh ad.. While I was messing around with MojoPac this week, I was thinking of how people are getting used to having their digital data at their fingertips. Either by using a smartphone, laptop or a portable device (USB stick). In a sense we are becoming “Digital Nomads”. No matter where you are, you always have the lastest news (RSS), e-mail, websites etc.. Thinking about that, I was reminded of those old commercials I would always see in the movie theatre by Martini. They had great ads and their slogan used to be “Anytime, anyplace, anywhere”. Well, thats […]

Crash and burn

“Hamster” Talk about personal preferences: two weeks ago I wrote about the fact that I wasn’t surprised or shocked about “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin getting killed. Well, quite the opposite happened when when I learned yesterday that Top-Gear co-host Richard “Hamster” Hammond was seriously injured in a car crash. In fact I was shocked and surprised. Not only is Top Gear my favorite TV-show about cars, I also find Richard Hammond sympathetic. He usualy is the bud of Jeremy Clarkson jokes due to his relatively short stature of 5′ 7″ (hence his nickname “Hamster”). Together with his other co-host, James […]

Got my Mojo

Portable 2-the-max One of the coolest things lately, are those Web 2.0 applications that turn your browser into a virual desktop. It allows you to be portable, as long as you have an Internet connection. I also have a cool 1gb U3 enabled USB stick from Memorex. It has a load of portable applications on it. One drawback is that whatever option you choose it still isn’t exactly what you want. Well, a new venture has entered the ring of portable applications: MojoPac. This nifty little application (currently beta) makes it possible to have a completely portable virtual XP with […]

Last of summer days

We are having a bit of an Indian Summer to end this year: for a week it has been great weather and this weekend we end it (probably) with a festival here at my place, Almere. They called it the “Beer & Music Festival”. I wonder who came up with that dumb name? Anyway, we have lot’s of live music and – you guessed it – beer. Beer & Music Festival

Trains, planes and automobiles

In and out Just got back from England. Another 48 hours of travel and business. It always sounds cool when you say “I have to go for a business trip to ……” (fill in the blanks with a interesting sounding name). It sounds important and it’s like “hey” you’re “the man”. In reality it usually means you hurry to some airport – way to early in the morning – run to get a cab, hurry to a meeting, spend a couple of hours at that dull meeting, hurry back again to catch another cab (if your lucky you catch a […]
