Do the Google Wave

Forget about Bing. Do the Google Wave! While the evil forces of steve Ballmer were introducing their feeble attempt to regain control over the Internet with their search engine ‘answer machine’ Bling Bing, Google had their own party. While Steve was trying to do his best to convince the press why Bing will be important, Google VP of Engineering was rocking with his own keynote speech. The same developers that gave us Google Maps (it’s just brilliant), came up with a new technology called “Wave”. And yes, as with all Google products, its going to be available for everyone and there will […]

Bing?

Seems like Microsoft is still trying to get back in the race for dominating the Internet. Or should I say: trying to beat Google? I haven’t been following too much of this, as I have been quite busy lately, but it seems that Microsoft is working on a new search engine technology called… “Bing“. That’s right folks; not ‘bling bling’ but ‘Bing‘. Last Thursday (May 28th), Steve Ballmer (yes, him again) revealed this latest attempt to catch up with Google and make good on their completely failed “Live” search engine. Bing is based on the technology from a firm called […]

Bye bye Leno!

Last night a legacy of 17 years ended when Tonight Show host Jay Leno aired his last talk show. I have always been more of a Leno guy than a The Late Show with David Letterman, guy. I guess it is essentially a ‘East coast’ versus ‘West coast’ thing (or republican vs democrat). For a while both shows where on the Dutch TV, but then suddenly stopped. So I always tried to watch a couple of his shows whenever I was visiting my girlfriend in the US. It will be interesting to see how Leno will keep up with his […]

Terminator Salvation (for the franchise?)

I remember it like yesterday. It was 1984 and I was 17. I was skipping class to go see this movie called “The Terminator” with this guy called Arnold Schwarzenegger, who’s two previous movies – Conan the Barbarian (’82) and Conan the Destroyer (’84) – I had seen as well. So, me and this friend of mine, head out to the theather in Amsterdam, got us some popcorn and sat back to enjoy the ride. And what a ride it was. The storyline was provocative and intelligent. The action was non-stop. The characters where cool. What else would one want? Afterwards […]

Twitter shitter

It’s funny how people think very different about using Twitter. After all the new social networks like MySpace, LinkedIn, Facebook and Hyves (most popular in Holland), one might think the market for these kind of initiatives would be full. So when Twitter came out in 2006, I did not see the relevance of it. I mean: who wants the restriction of posting within 140 characters – including spaces? It is like SMS for the Web. Needless to say, I wasn’t convinced that there was a need for ‘micro-blogging‘ as it was soon dubbed. Also: who is interested in all this personal […]

Queen’s Day will never be the same

Queen’s Day 2009 has ended in a tragedy. At 11:50am some crazy person drove a Suzuki Swift straight into the crowd when he tried to ram the bus carrying the royal family and Queen Beatrix in it. So far it seems that 14 people have been wounded and 1-4 people possibly died. The driver of the car has survived the crash and has been taken from wreck to be questioned by police. A witness has declared that the car was following the trail of the bus, so it seems it was no accident. News is sketchy at the moment, but this is […]

12 Monkeys

12 Monkeys I don’t know about you, but ever since that ‘swine flu’ broke out in Mexico, I can’t help thinking of that 1995 movie “12 Monkeys”, by Terry Gilliam. The movie is set  in a grim post-apocalyptic future. In 1996-1997, the Earth’s surface was contaminated by a virus so deadly that it forced the surviving population to live underground. If you have seen the movie, you probably remember that it turns out that the virus was spread by an evil scientist, set on a tour of cities (by plane), which turned out to be the path of the worldwide viral outbreak. A real bioterrorist attack, […]

How did he get that job?

Sorry for posting yet another video, but I could not believe what I was seeing and hearing. I mean; kudos for president Obama; it seems he has gathered a group of competent people around him in the White House. But  I guess Press Secretary Gibbs does not fall into this category. In fact, after seeing this clip I was wondering: “how the heck did he get that job?”.  The subject: yesterday  a flight mission and photo op, that looked like Air Force One and fighter jets heading toward the New York City skyline, caused a panic in New York. Some buildings even got […]

At the range

Seems like all I do right now is post video’s on my Blog. And here’s another one. Our shooting club got an invitation from the Police shooting club in Amsterdam (APGS). So we headed over to their range where we learned a bit about how the Dutch police train their cops for stuations where deadly force with a gun is applied. It was quite a new experience – except for those from our club that do actionshooting. Normally I never kneel, shoot around an object or act like I’m defending myself and aim for the legs (I shoot at a […]
