Ok, I ran to the store today and in some kind of stupid moment of weakness I bought Half-Life 2. I got home, popped in the DVD (yeah, this baby steals some 5gig harddisk space from you) and started to play… NOT! As it turns out this f** game is attached to some a**hole program called “Steam”. Well, it’s more a virus! Without it you can’t play the game at all!
And, for starters: even though its an OFFLINE game, you need to be ONLINE to pay it! Also, for some dumbass reason it needs to download something (God knows what) and decrypt the game or whatever! On my P4 2.8ghz that took more than 40 minutes! WTF!
First it would not install at all on any other drive than C: which had only 4gig on it. The reason was that I installed a previous version of Steam (which I know will dub “shit”) was installed there and wherever “shit” is, Half-Life 2 needs to be.
So I moved it to my E: drive and then it would install (finally). That took another 40 minutes and then “Shit” wanted to download something else and decrypt it too.
Bottomline: it’s 22:30, I’m 3 hours down the road and I just fired it up successfully. If I ever meet one of the assholes that invented “Shit” I will run over them with a truck!
Ok, let’s play! This better be good!
(to be continued)
