About an hour or two ago I installed Vista build 5472, the latest build so far of Vista beta. This time the install did actually take about 30 minutes, a huge improvement over the last three to four install attempts. Actually, the whole install went the smoothest so far. And this time I did notice some improvements as well. Performance was better: Vista felt a lot more responsive. I installed Skype, MSN Live Chat and all worked well. Off course my TV-card didn’t work and neither did my scanner or webcam, but I was able to setup Media Center without any glitches. Well, except off course for the TV card that managed to crash vista with a nice BSOD (can’t believe they haven’t changed that yet). In other words: so far it seemed like the best beta that I ran son far and I was getting hopefull.
Well *seemed* is the key word with Vista. I tried to install Office 2007 and then all the sudden things went wrong. The installer gave an error about a corrupt setup file and then my Explorer died on me. It never came up again and after that Vista just gave up and no matter what I did: it would not start anymore.
Ok, great. I’m about to re-install Vista so I can try and see if I can duplicate the circumstances when it crashed. If it does the same thing then I know for sure this build is just as crap as all the previous ones.
One thing is for sure: if I can’t get this build to work in a proper way I will *definately* skip untill we are like 3 build further down the road because this just ridiculous.
