Now that Spain has beaten Germany (shocking!) 1:0 we will play against Spain in the 2010 World Soccer Championship.
Whoever wins: there is going to be a new World Champion Soccer as neither country has ever won the world cup before.
Everyone in Holland would have loved it if we had to play against Germany (revenge for 1974 when they beat us), but Spain it is.
No doubt it’s going to be a historical match. Is 2010 the year in which we finally win the World Cup for the first time in our history? Holland has had it’s best tournament ever: we have not lost 1 match in the whole tournament, or in the qualifiers!
The match against Uruguay last night (we won 3:2), was another historical and record breaking match in a different sense: the game was watched by a record number of 12,3 million Dutch people. And our country has about 16,6 million inhabitants. Wow!
Anyway: below are the highlights from our game against Uruguay last night (Dutch only).
I still wonder if the Dutch Energy company (de nederlandse energie maatschappij) will keep their promise of a year free energy if we become world champions.
That is an interesting problem: as I understand it their marketing stunt has been characterized by the Justice department as a “game” and as such they would have needed a (gambling/game) license for this.
Another publicity stunt: some Dutch pornstar has promised a blowjob for every follower of her Twitter account if Holland wins the match this Sunday. I don’t see that happening with over 63.000 followers 🙂
