Ok, last night I found out my NAS seemed to have garbled the complete contents of my harddisk. After doing some research I concluded that the data should still be on the disk. However, it seemed that I can not restore the data – even after hooking it up to my Ubuntu Linux box. So I searched for some recovery tool, and I have stumbled upon a tool from Stellar Phoenix hard drive data recovery tools, called Stellar Phoenix Linux. I downloaded the trial, installed it and hooked up the disk. After a scan it shows what I already figured: all the data is still on the disk, in the lost+found directory (remember: it’s a Ext/3 disk now). Now, if only I could figure out how to restore all that without havng to shell out Euro 60,- to buy the software? Another problem poses itself now though: I need another disk that has at least a couple of hundred gigs free space! Because when I try to restore, I should not restore it to the same disk. Jeezz. So here’s the deal: A) At least I need to find another (external) disk of a good 200gb, B) I need to figure out how to get the files from lost+found back by using Linux, or: – C) I have to buy that software. Hmmm, seems I will not have this solved before the weekend 🙁 But at least I know there is a road to recovery…
To be continued…
