Here is a little lesson in pure ’70’s pop-history that I came across and was fascinated with. As such I like to share this with you all. The British pop-group 10cc (known mostly from their song “Dreadlock Holiday“) released a song called “I’m not in love” on May 31st 1975. A time when synthesizers where not that common – yet. When you listen to the song however, it sounds very much like a modern day synthesizer was used. But it wasn’t. The unique sound the song has, was completely conceived using the technology available in 1975 – which included a moog synthesizer – and pushing […]
Damn, I’m converted
Ok, <insert confession mode here> this is a big step for me, but I confess that I have been converted. I just saw the new iPhone 4 revealed by Apple CEO Steve Jobs as only he can do. It’s gorgeous – and – I want one. There, I said it. I want an iPhone. Finally iPhone is up to par – and now even trend setting – feature-wise – with other phones. They finally added multitasking (my phones did that 4 years ago already) and a front cam (both my Nokia E71 and HTC Diamond Pro have that already). But also a gyroscope, dual-mic […]
Sound Surroundings
It’s been a long time since I have been impressed with a Dutch music band, but when I saw and heard “The Q4” (also known as “The Quadraphonic Quartet”) on the Dutch daily show “De Wereld Draait Door” (aka DWDD) I knew I had to get my hands on their music. The Q4 produces some of the best trip-hop/nu-jazz I’ve ever heard, and is one of my favorite 2010 releases. I have been playing them for a few days now and I still am impressed with their style and laid-back sound. It was cool to see them show their creative […]
Mashup the music
Ok, this post is actually a blatant excuse to try out a WordPress plugin called “µAudio Player” that I just installed and enables me to attach MP3 files within my postings here at Bloggers@large. One could use that for Podcasting or, like I have done below, attaching audio files that I would like to share with you readers (or should that be “listeners”?). In this case I have inserted one file from the famous (or infamous) “mashup” artist who calls himself “Mighty Mike” and made a bootleg mashup of Duffy’s “Mercy” and the classic Police song “Roxanne”. I think that […]
Funk it up with Maceo Parker
Just came back from Amsterdam, Paradiso concert hall, where my friend Sander and me went to go see “funkmaster” Maceo Parker. Boy, can that guy still play the sax! Although he’s 66 now, he’s still touring like crazy. When you visit Maceo Parker’s website, and check his schedule, you’ll see what I mean. As usual when he visits Paradiso, Dutch Saxophone diva Candy Dulfer came over to play some numbers with Maceo. Not a big surprise, because when we arrived we both saw her walking out the building with her boyfriend.
