If you have followed my blog, you know by now that I have started to dislike flying a lot in the last few years. Ever since the financial crisis went from Wall Street to Main Street airlines have been trying to cope with the fact that fuel prices went up and fewer people can afford travelling internationally. On top of that their service is getting really crappy as well. Believe me: airlines are trying to pinch every penny. I also think this is wrong; instead of raising prices and lowering service overall to a lousy level (paying $5 for a […]
What is a browser?
Ok guys, I was pretty much amazed when I saw this video, showing people fail on a huge scale when asked: “what is a browser”. Flabbergasted is actually more like it. It’s like people not knowing the answer to the question: “what is an engine”? This video shows people trying to come up with an answer. There is actually a Dutch version of this video as well (crappy), shot in Rotterdam and it shows exactly the same result. Sorry, how can millions of people use a browser, but not know what it actually is? Well to answer the question: a […]
Speednames? No they are not.
Here’s a true story in the category “customer support hell”. It is one of those stories where you would swear that people are actually instructed to do anything but assist you and get a kick out of that. A prime example of customer harassment instead of service. So what’s the deal? Back in 2003 I decided to register my last name as a domain name. Because the .NL domain name was already taken, I decided to register the .COM domain. I used a Danish company for this called “Speednames” (part of Ascio which is part of the UK Group NBT […]
How did he get that job?
Sorry for posting yet another video, but I could not believe what I was seeing and hearing. I mean; kudos for president Obama; it seems he has gathered a group of competent people around him in the White House. But I guess Press Secretary Gibbs does not fall into this category. In fact, after seeing this clip I was wondering: “how the heck did he get that job?”. The subject: yesterday a flight mission and photo op, that looked like Air Force One and fighter jets heading toward the New York City skyline, caused a panic in New York. Some buildings even got […]
Mayday! Mayday! Gmail down!
Hmm, I don’ t hope this is going to be a trend, but this morning around 10:20am (GMT) Google Gmail went down globally! Since then it has failed to come up again. I noticed it because my Gmail checker on my Mac ceased to work and said it timed out. Off course I tried to find out if it was just my connection or if something else was going on. I soon ran into a page in the UK that confirmed what I figured out already: Gmail is down globally! And it’s the second big outage in two months. On […]
Gone Phishing
Ok, lovely. This morning my website seemed to be down. So, as usual I wrote the grease monkeys of Site5 about this. The reply was a bit unsettling: Hi, IP address of your account has been null-routed by our datacenter due to phishing content on one of your accounts: — The Planet or its upstream providers has received a complaint related to a probable violation of The Planet s Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). We are forwarding a copy of the report, requesting that you take appropriate measures to address the issue. The server in question is hosting a phishing site at […]
