Daylight saving time, or DST, will kick in here in Europe tonight. When it’s 3am, our clock moves back to 2am. I never understood why we need to change the clock each time. All I know is that when winter time starts, I get an extra hour of sleep. Good as that might sound, it also means I get hungry earlier during the day for at least a week or so. And when it’s around 4pm I feel like going home from work already. Some say that using DST saves on energy. But I think thats just a load of […]
Car vs (car) trailer
It’s amazing how stupid some people are when handling certain situations. These guys where loading two cars onto a car trailer and obviously didn’t care how they would do it. Essentially they just rear ended one car an pushed it up the trailer. I could not zoom with my crappy phone camera, but what happened was that the last car got stuck on the hitch of the car in front of it. I’m sure it was damaged after that. This happened next door to where I work. My colleagues all wondered what the heck those guys where doing too. Shows you how […]
All geared up
After seeing some good reviews on the TAC Force tactical crossdraw vest by YouTube guru Nutnfancy, I decided to get one myself. Just for fun – as I did with my Viridian X5L. So I looked online and chased down some Dutch websites that supposedly sell this stuff and I even visited a few Army dump stores. But I soon discovered that none had any tactical vests like this one in-store. Heck, some didn’t even know what I was talking about. So, yet again, I had to order online. I decided not to buy directly from TAC Force as I […]
Above the Law
When people are talking about dictators, they usually live in countries far away like Africa or South-America. I’m talking about the likes of Hugo Chavez (Venezuela) and Robert Mugabe (Zimbabwe). What a lot of people do not realize is, that right here and now, we have a dictator in Europe as well. A dictator that got elected democratically, just like Hugo Chavez and Robert Mugabe once were elected. But a dictator nevertheless. I’m talking about president Silvio Berlusconi (73yrs) of Italy. Don’t get me wrong: I believe strongly in he fact that most countries (not all) get the government they […]
What is a browser?
Ok guys, I was pretty much amazed when I saw this video, showing people fail on a huge scale when asked: “what is a browser”. Flabbergasted is actually more like it. It’s like people not knowing the answer to the question: “what is an engine”? This video shows people trying to come up with an answer. There is actually a Dutch version of this video as well (crappy), shot in Rotterdam and it shows exactly the same result. Sorry, how can millions of people use a browser, but not know what it actually is? Well to answer the question: a […]
Movie pastime
One of my favorite pastime activities is watching movies. Granted, I hardly go to the movie theater anymore. In this day and age I get my stuff “on-demand” (read: usenet). Now, one of my favorite activities besides watching movies, is watching the trailers for movies. I think it is fun and helps build the anticipation. The trick to a good trailer is obviously to build the anticipation and make you go “I really want to go see that movie”. If I think of good trailers from the last years/decades (yeah, I’m over 40). Then a few pop into my mind as really […]
Capitalism US style: “dead peasant policies”
I’m stunned. There really is no limit to greed. It’s capitalism, US style. Michael Moore uncovered yet another great story about greed. In short: you take out a life insurance policy on people working for you. If they die, you cash in. Yeah, you read that right. Corporate America gambles on you dying and then making a profit out of it. Not your family will benefit, but that asshole boss you hated all the time. I guess if corporate America can do it, maybe the military can do it too. Let’s take out insurance on firefighters as well. No wait; cops! Seriously. […]
Nailed it
After about 150 bullets of Magtech 124 grain FMJ 9mm I finally nailed it today and was able to zero in my HK P30L and my Viridian X5L laser perfectly. It took me more effort (and ammo) than I hoped, but that was due to the fact that the batteries that came with my laser bore sight ran out after less than 10 minutes of use. Finding the rights new batteries proved a hassle and it took me till last weekend to do so. So today I finally could go to the range again with that fixed. Sure enough, with […]
Healthcare in the US? Overrated.
While I was in the US in August visiting my girlfriend, the one theme dominating US news, was president Obama’s healthcare reform plan. As an outsider looking into what goes on in America, I find it strange that people seem to object to something that will help out literally millions of fellow Americans. It seems that everyone says they want to help someone, but not if it costs them any money. Well, folks: there is no such thing as a free lunch. I guess I’m to liberal – or should I say socialistic – to think that I am doing […]
Windows 7: so far so good
As I was getting more and more flaky errors from my Vista Home Premium installation, I recently reinstalled my Del XPS 420. Since I got my hands on Windows 7 Ultimate (legal, MSDN), I decided to take the step and install that. I reviewed some beta versions of Windows 7 before and it looked promising, but it is alway a bit of a gamble with Microsoft. Previously when I beta-tested Windows Vista it was a nightmare: with every new Beta it seemed that Vista got worse and worse instead of better. So when the final version of Vista came out […]
