Going Vista part 3: from crap to utter crap?

(click me) It certainly is going to be a bumpy ride for Microsoft. I just installed Build 5456 and I can still sum it up in one word: crap. It is unbelievable but still I get a nice blue screen when I reboot. Still it doesn’t recognize hardware like my webcam and scanner. Performance did improve (my swapfile isn’t that huge anymore) a bit. The UAC (User Account Control) still bugs you every 2 clicks you make. Jeezzz guys. This is just…. unbelievable. According to some information it should run better etc. but so far I haven’t seen *any* proof […]

Going Vista part 2

I have been messing around a bit with Vista Beta 2, as I wrote last week. After the first hurdles of getting it installed properly and finding some drivers that work with my hardware, I also installed Office 2007 beta, SnagIT (for the screenshots I use here) and MSN Live. The more I play around with Vista, the more I feel it is going to be a big culture shock to most XP users. Also it feels like the system (especially the Ultimate version of build 5384) is bloathed with unessecary options and features that really makes this system sluggish […]

I want this

Since I do want to start running/jogging again, I definately want this: I better start saving some money for the shoes, the iPod and the gear.

Spineless

Say “ah”! It’s the week of controversy here in Holland. For starters on Tuesday Sony announced it has pulled a Dutch billboard advertising campaign for the new white version of its PlayStation Portable video game player which (non-Dutch) critics dubbed “racist”. Also this week, a Dutch McDonalds franchise decided to removed their urinals shaped as a mouth (see picture) after some hypocritical asshole American complained about them at McDonalds headquarters in the US. Seriously people: what is wrong with this picture? In a statement Sony said: “We recognize that the subject matter of one specific image may have caused concern […]

Going Vista

Ultimate! Yes guys and girls, I just went Vista (beta2)! I got the DVD with Vista beta2 that came with PC Magazine (Dutch version) this month. I could have downloaded the sucker, but I decided to just buy the magazine and spare me the time of downloading, burning a DVD and then find out the DVD is corrupt or something. So what are my findings so far? In short: mixed feelings. Microsoft calls Windows Vista “a breakthrough computing experience”. Yeah, well, I think it’s a bit early to call it that. In fact Microsoft needs to start addressing some issues […]

Sad

There are a hundred subjects that I could blog about today. Ranging from the terrorist bomb-attack in Mumbai India, to the European Commission preparing to impose a multi-million euro fine on Microsoft, to the news of Bush giving detainees Geneva rights. Or even about something so stupid as people cheating while playing games like Battlefield 2. But my attention was drawn to two seperate criminal cases in the US. One about a 18-year old teenager who helped his ex-girlfriend kill and dismember a 16-year-old classmate last year, and – even more disturbing – about a now 15-year old boy who […]

There is a sucker born every minute

Ok, remember that great pseudo-scientific movie/documentary “What the Bleep do we Know?” Well, in the same line there is now this video called “The Secret”. Sit back, relax and laugh… The Secret ps: This thing goes even further than this: check out this trailer here and you can also follow this link going to a site called www.thescret.tv. When you can’t get enough, watch the whole movie at Google Videos Technorati Profile

Don’t believe the hype

PSP advertisement Usually I have not that much sympathy for big companies that try to impose restrictions onto their customers/consumers. Especially not when they try to do so by using methods that are completely unethical. Like for example Sony who used a rootkit to impose copy protection in their CD’s. But what I do not like is the kind of “company-bashing” that is now been done by a blogger from Engadget. Some editor called Ryan Block (no doubt he must be a single white caucasian asshole American nerd guy) is trying to make the international readers believe that “Sony is […]

Trouble part III

It looks like we are close to yet another government led by our own ‘Harry Potter look-a-like’ Jan Peter Balkenende. When does he take a hint and get the hell out of politics? This will be Balkenende III and it’s not a good thing; he didn’t succeed in accomplishing what he said he was going to accomplish the previous two times, so why try a third time? Well, the idea behind it is simple: the two parties that will form the interim-government, CDA and VVD, think that if the stay in power the next few months it will possibly get […]

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition

Great, yet another country is giving in to those assholes from the MPAA and RIAA: Spain has now adopted some new laws that outlaw P2P sharing and even makes Internet providers potential criminals by saying they can be held responsible as well: there is also to be a tax on all forms of blank media, including flash memory drives. Great. I guess the they never heard of legal filesharing (like the distribution of ISO images for Linux distro’s). As Monty Python said: “Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition”. Btw: we have such a tax in Holland as well, but it is […]
