Last week was one of those uncommon weeks: lot’s of problems going on in Holland and some personal stuff as well. For starters we had a huge incident related to terrorism. Some cops tried to raid a house in The Hague were some people lived that were suspected terrorists. Unfortunately for them these guys were prepared and the walked into a booby-trap. This wounded three cops. After that the men threw a hand grenade at them.
After this the police had to call in the military and soon the whole block in which the apartment was, became the focal point of a siege: in a ten block radius people were evacuated and airtraffic above the city was stopped.
So exactly in the same week Theo van Gogh (victim of a extremist Muslim) was cremated, our country was in total turmoil again. The siege lasted a day, and had a shocking conclusion: a special unit raided the house and apprehended the two brothers that lived there. Now comes the catch: they both were Caucasians with the Dutch nationality that had converted to being Muslims.
Later on it even turned out that they actually came from… The United States. So technically they were Americans, that became Dutch, and then turned into Muslims. How’s that for weird?
Car crash
On a more personal note; again I had another car crash. Well, technically speaking someone ran into me – once again. Thursday morning I left my house, drove down my block, took a turn, waited for the traffic light an then took a left. The mini-van was on my left and I was driving in the right lane. Then suddenly, without putting on blinker the guy steered into my lane. Since I was right beside him, he hit me full length on the left. Off course we weren’t driving any faster then 30 kilometers an hour or so. But still. Mind you: this was like 300 yards from my apartment.
Oh well, no personal inmjuries, so I have turned my car in – once again – for repairs.
