Bush: pathetic liar

In december I wrote about the US becoming it’s own worst enemy because they seem to adopt the same questionable ethics as the so-called terrorists and rogue states they fight. Well, add two new chapters to the whole ‘I told you so’ book. First there is a huge scandal going on right now in Europe: a debate about covert CIA flights moving terrorist suspects to clandestine prisons in various locations on European soil. Supposedly the CIA also tortures the suspects there as well. Off course the US (Condoleeza Rice) denied such stories, but in way that leaves some room for doubts. And – off course – it seems European countries and politicians knew about it (despite denying it first). But now there is even something worse: the USA is spying on it’s own citizens and is doing so unconstitutionally (without court orders). Worse: Bush has lied to the American public about doing so! Suprisingly the American public doesn’t seem to care about it and he probably will get away with it – once more.

Bush defended using government wiretaps without court authorization by saying:

“To save American lives we must be able to act fast and to detect these conversations so we can prevent new attacks.”

And:

“I swore to uphold the laws. Do I have the legal authority to do this? And the answer is, absolutely.”

Bush said during a news conference in December that he understands why people are angry that prewar intelligence about Iraq was wrong:

“You say, ‘Well, wait a minute: Everybody thought there was weapons of mass destruction; there weren’t any.’ I felt the same way.”

It is just really a big disgrace that the American people put up with this liar. The following two segments show him lying (not once, but over and over again) about the wire-taps:

It makes me sick. And I’m not even an American. But knowing Bush (and the American public) he will just walk away with this – once again. Which leads me to the conclusion: countries get the government they deserve!
