Have you ever noticed how your taste changes when you get older? Suddenly you start liking things you didn't like before? (Or should I say: start hating things less then before) Well I have to admit that now I am about to start pushing 40 (no - that's not the confession) I notice how my taste in music is more or less changing. A good example is that I am starting to like Madonna. No really. Madonna is about to push 50 (she's from 1958) but what is intruiging when I think about it, is that I can name at least a few songs from her from the last three decades; I basically grew up (or matured) surrounded by her music. Now, how many artists can say the same? I mean, in the eighties we had her debut album "Madonna", that featured three bonafide hits: "Holiday," "Borderline," and "Lucky Star". Then next we had "Material Girl" and "Dress You Up". Not only that: Madonna somehow kept re-inventing herself. In the late 80's and early 90's she just kep changing her image. I mean: who doesn't know songs from that period like "True Blue", "Live to tell", "Papa don't preach" and so on?
Then, in the 90's she, once again, changed dramatically. Making kind off house-style music with songs like "Vogue" and later "Justify my Love". This is also the time when she did her (in)famous bio-pic/documentary/movie "Truth or Dare (aka: In Bed with Madonna)". And I didn't like her a bit. She was an egoistic, spoiled bitch. How much of a change with how she is now. More in control of her emotions and so much more in sync with herself.
And when I saw the music DVD of her last show (The Confessions Tour) I was quite blown away with her performance. It was a very, very good show. She did some old school songs from her past and mixed everything together in a very, very good way.
So anyway; just to show you a bit about the "old" and new Madonna, just watch these clips from YouTube featuring Madonna on the the Dave Letterman show. I like the 'new' Madonna a lot more than the old one :-)
Ps: just to clarify, I never, ever bought 1 Madonna album in my life, but I admire her professionalism a lot.
