About Dilbert and Engineers
If your in the IT or technology business, you gotta love the Dilbert cartoons. Dilbert is a cartoon evolving round perfect office humor about a white-collar, micromanaged office featuring engineer Dilbert. There are many, many very recognizable situations in the cartoon and I am 100% sure that anyone that ever had a job will recognize several character trades in their colleagues and - especially - their management.
What I didn't know, is that there were also Dilbert cartoons on TV and on the Dilbert Website. I didn't know this until I came across a posting on another blog that featured the YouTube video below.
The funny thing about it is, that I am sure a lot of people in tech industry will recognize a bit about themselves in it. It's called "The Knack" (as in: "he has a knack for things"). After seeing it I just knew I had to post it as well. So here I go.
Ps: another funny thing I came across was the following quote:
"An optimist will tell you the glass is half full. A pessimist will tell you the glass is half empty. An engineer will tell you the glass is twice the size it needs to be."
PPs: A "fun" fact about Dilbert cartoons: in 2007 a guy got fired over putting a Dilbert cartoon on a bulletin board at his work.

Twitter Shitter
It's funny how people think very different about using Twitter. After all the new social networks like MySpace, LinkedIn, Facebook and Hyves (most popular in Holland), one might think the market for these kind of initiatives would be full. So when Twitter came out in 2006, I did not see the relevance of it. I mean: who wants the restriction of posting within 140 characters - including spaces? It is like SMS for the Web. Needless to say, I wasn't convinced that there was a need for 'micro-blogging' as it was soon dubbed.
Also: who is interested in all this personal stuff that people suddenly are sharing (see cartoon on the left)? But, as it turned out, a great deal of people do like this service. I think it appealed mostly to the mobile phone generation; kids that grew up with SMS and are used to express themselves using short messages.
Whatever the social appeal of Twitter is - I guess it makes people feel they are connected to each other in a disconnected society - a lot of people like to make fun of it. So I came across these top 25 cartoons and they made me chuckle a bit on this Sunday morning. So check them out ;-)

Fur TV: Beavis & Butt-head for the new millennium
Remember Beavis & Butt-head? They were one of the great cultural icons of the 20th century and I think I found their heirs for the new millennium: Fur TV. Back in the early and mid-90's I loved to watch the exploits of Beavis & Butt-head the two cartoon characters, who live in the fictional town of Highland, Texas. They while away their time in sarcastic conversation, fantasizing about sex and masculinity, although they have no real-world experience with either thing.
Now Fast forward to 2008 and meet Fat Ed Tubbs, Lapeño Enriquez and Mervin J Minky. Fat Ed is a foul-mouthed, violent, beer swilling heavy metal obsessive, Lapeño is a Brazilian sex fiend, who has a way with women and has even worked as a pimp, while Mervin is a hapless, mentally retarded, self-abusing fanatic with an addiction to masturbation. Yup guys, it is the new millennium and so we have a bunch of characters fitting for the new millennium.
You can watch all episodes online at the MTV website, or at YouTube. Or you can have a quick preview here so you can see what I am writing about:
