A lot of times when I watch a video on YouTube I think to myself: “what are the odds of something like this (whatever it is I am watching) happening and it’s caught on tape?” It happened today when my attention was drawn to the following movie(s). If this doesn’t fall into the category of epic fails, I wonder what does?
Last month, on November 11th to be exact, this guy was driving his priceless Bugatti Veyron (one of the 15 believed to be sold in the USA) down the I45 near Galveston (Texas). Then, according to the owner, “a low-flying pelican” distracted him, causing him to jerk the steering wheel a bit — and he then dropped his cell phone, and drove straight into a saltwater lagoon.
The result of his mishap is shown below in the first YouTube movie and it sends shivers down my spine. I mean: we are talking about the holy grail in sports cars (I would make a pact with the devil to own one — if I could). I mean: this car costs around 1,6 million Euro’s (roughly about $2 million), and this guy totaled it. The result can be seen in a YouTube video posted below, where they tow the car out the lake. Looking at it, it felt like someone kicked me in the groin.
But here is where the story gets really interesting. Think of it: with only 15 Bugatti Veyron’s in the US, what are the odds that one is involved in an accident like this? But wait, there is more. How big are the odds that he actually got filmed while totaling his car? I’m not good at math but I would say; one in a million? Maybe more? Still, that is exactly what happened.
While the unfortunate owner of the Veyron was still on his merry way, another guy (medical student Joe Garza from the University of Texas) drove by the Veyron and whipped out his iPhone and started filming the exotic car. Seconds into the film he says “That’ll be mine one day”. His buddy then asks “what is it?” and our car-connoisseur then says dryly: “That’s a Lambo, dude” (uhm, yeah right, you could buy four Lambo’s for the price of one of these puppies). Then, to his big surprise (“Oh shit!”) the guy just drives his Veyron straight into the lake.
And there isn’t a pelican in sight.
Anyway, the guy filming might actually “own the car” is he wants to. After all: it’s now a $2 million clunker. He might be able to buy it now.
Just check out the amazing footage below.
(Warning: seeing this beautiful, unique car getting trashed might cause trauma. Viewer discretion advised)
